Inevitably, I suppose we will have to listen to children’s music on endless repeat over and over, but we’re putting that off as long as possible. Adriene and I are trying to start out the girls on good music and we hope it sticks. Hopefully twelve years from now, we won’t have to endure whatever the contemporary equivalent of Britney Spears will be in their music players.
We have a boom-box in the nursery and we each made CD’s to play quietly through the night, mostly soothing stuff from our collections to play for them. Adriene, naturally, selected a lot of U2, Coldplay, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and a little bit of Keane along with other music for her CD. I selected some more relaxing songs by Over the Rhine, Sandra McCracken, Linford Detweiler’s piano CDs (fabulous for soothing babies!), some quieter Lost Dogs songs and even some of Micheal Pritzl’s soothing solo work.
Not only is the music relaxing for the babies, but they are soothing for mom and dad, too. Sometimes I linger in the nursery just a little longer, just to watch the babies sleeping and listen to the music.
What songs would you put on a lullabye CD for babies?
