Faith Of Our Fathers

What goes around comes around. Last week, I finally put back together my old desk from my middle school and high years. When I left for college, my father took it downstairs from my bedroom and put it in his office and has used it as a computer desk for the last *mumble* years. About a month ago, he decided to build his own desk, so he offered to pass it back to me. I jumped at the chance to get a piece of my past and also, get some more furniture for my horridly disorganized office. He disassembled it and we drove over and put the pieces in Adriene’s Blazer and brought it home.

After I finished putting it together, I noticed that my dad had left three Bible verses taped to the desk that had been on the desk for years now:

1 Thessalonians 5:14-18
…comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always persue what is good, both for yourselves and for all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Philipians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Psalm 51:12-15
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will turn back to You. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tounge will sing of Your righteousness.

I left the verses still taped to the desk as I began to move my stuff onto it. There’s something comforting about sharing the faith of the generation before you and (hopefully) passing it on to the generation after you. The God of Abraham is the God of Isaac. A little reminder of my family everytime I’m at my desk.

“This is where I’m from
And we will pass it on
So take it as it comes
Cause it belongs to me ”
