So Tuesday evening, April 26th I arrived at the Starry Plough Pub around 9:00. They were still working through a sound check which apparently had not been going so well. The place was more crowded than I expected, and actually had a really nice atmosphere. A strange part was that there were some tables and chairs, but also a big open space in the middle of the bar. Rachel and her sister and friend were already there and had found a spot toward the front on stage left. We goofed around waiting for the show to start. The bar was really hot and there was lots of great beer on tap (I chose Harp) and so I walked around the place a bit and talked a bit to my friend Chris whom I’ve met previously. Finally, Kim Taylor came on.

I don’t have the set list from Kim’s stuff, but I believe she did 4 songs. She scrunches her face up almost just like Karin when she sings. Is that something she learned or do they hang out cause they make the same “maybe orgasmic or maybe extrememly painful” look on their faces when they sing? Anyway, she said she wasn’t feeling well, but still sounded great. Cute little pony tails in her hair.

Around 10pm Karin and Linford came up on stage. I snagged a setlist which reads as follows:

    Starry P.
D.P. , Born, Spark, Looking F, Anything at all, Suitcase, Bluer, Lil Did I know, I want U2B, All I Need, Cruel & P Encore: Hush Now, My *heart* is a f., Latter Daze

Everything was gorgeous. I think they were tired and didn’t feel so great though. For My Love is a Fever, Mike Roe of the 77s joined them on stage and played along. Linford said something like, “Our friend is going to join us on this next song. Please welcome Mike Roe.” People cheered, and during the instrumental section, the band really sounded great. They were obviously enjoying themselves and I just love it when Karin gets that smiling suprised look on her face them the band does something she seems to not quite have expected. Mike should play with them all the time… he adds a nice element to the sound. ;) At the end, someone yelled out “Seventy-sevens ROCK!” or something like that. It was fun, even though I imagine much of the crowd had no idea who Mike Roe or the 77s even are.

At the end of the show, people pretty much took off right away. The place just emptied out. I was sortof hoping to catch the band and say hi, but we ended up taking off. I was tipsy (too much Harp) and I forgot my credit card behind the bar. Oops. All in all, a great night. Great venue for them, although by the end people were mostly sitting on the floor. At one point, a guy in a chair, asked people in front of him to sit down. I thought that was odd…I mean here he is sitting in one of the only 20 or so chairs in the place and instead of standing up himself so he can see, or moving his chair to a place that wasn’t in the back-ish of the room, he asks people who are enjoying standing to sit on the floor. Seemed a bit odd. Anyway, this show was amazing.
