I was taking care of some administrative tasks yesterday on IBM’s internal site and stumbled across IBM’s official policy for their employees participating in blogs. What I found interesting is that the policy is surprisingly progressive when it comes to blogs. Within a couple boundaries (speaking for yourself and not for the company, doesn’t interfere with your responsibilties, nothing rude, offensive or hateful, not giving insider info, not revealing confidential info, not representing the company to potential customers, etc.), the policy is very open-ended, encouraging their employees to participate in webblogging. I found that refreshing, given how many companies have actually shut off sites like blogspot.com and xanga.com to their employees. I guess it makes sense if IBM wants to be a major player in the Internet that their employees should be a visible presence on it.

I guess now would be a good time to state that the views and opinions on my site are mine and not at all representative of IBM or IBM management.

Guess I ought to put up a disclaimer…. Continue reading →

[3

post-122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-housekeeping
["GET
