Cornerstone Vids #9, Vector – 1995

Vector is one of those bands that I heard a lot about in college, but never really actually heard any of their music. In the pre-MP3 days, once a band hung it up and the label stopped printing their music, the music essentially disappeared, only to be found in treasure digs at used record and CD stores.

The only thing I really knew about Vector is that Jimmy Abegg played in the band. I liked this clip a lot because it was a nice chance to see a band I never heard before:

I also liked this clip from Cornerstone 1995 because Davia Vallesillo makes an appearance on vocals with the band. When she left Dakoda Motor Company, she too disappeared into the ether when DMC faded away a couple years later. (Supposedly, Dakoda Motor Company was going to do a reunion tour a year or two ago, but I don’t know whatever happened with that.)

  1. I vaguely knew Vector was associated with the crowd from southern California (Choir/77s/Charlie Peacock), but I never really heard their stuff until they put out the album that Davia sang background on. Being a big Dakoda fan, I bought it for her vocals. It didn’t really grab me, but I probably need to give it another listen. The stuff in the video sounds pretty good.

Strangely enough, just this afternoon I was wondering what ever came of that Dakoda reunion. Apparently the answer is “nothing” – they played a couple of dates a couple of years ago, started work on a new album (enough that a rough demo was posted at one point). But now their own site is apparently dead, and the MySpace page hasn’t been updated in forever. (I don’t have a Facebook account to see if anything’s going on there.)
