Further Seems Forever was initially formed when the hardcore band Strongarm came to an end and the band members recruited singer Chris Carrabba. Carrabba, however, was also simultaneously working on his first project for his own band, Dashboard Confessional and after recording the first album The Moon Is Down decided to pursue Dashboard Confessional and the rest is history. Further Seems Forever continued on with a new lead singer, Jason Gleason and became a fixture at Cornerstone Festival for a few years.
This is a video from the 2001 show at Cornerstone Festival. I wasn’t at this one, but I was at their show the next year in 2002 in a totally packed-out tent and what I remember most about that show was that the crowd sang along to every song louder than the band. I remember thinking “these kids know every word of every song.” It was pretty powerful and combined with the passionate performance on stage made for a pretty memorable show.
I was out of the Further Seems Forever loop entirely. I’ll have to take your word for them being a fixture, because the first I ever knew of them playing the fest was when they had their disastrous Main Stage appearance a few years ago.
I saw them with this guy singing in Atlanta, opening for Juliana Theory. It was OK, a little yellier than I prefer. I think he was on his way out the door at that point, though. They replaced him with a guy from a band called Sensefield (or something like that), who was apparently bigger than I ever remembered. The guy looked a little old singing this kind of stuff with the rest of the band, and apparently couldn’t hear himself at all on Main Stage, so they SUUUUUCKED. I ran into a friend’s wife at the show, and she didn’t know anything about them. She kind of gave me a “what the heck is this?” look, and all I could say was “they’re usually a lot better than this.” And that was the end of Further Seems Forever, as far as I know.
That mainstage show was so sad. They were a shadow of what they used to be. I get depressed everytime I think about that show.
