This is the first video that I’ve posted so far that was a show that I actually attended. The Violet Burning played at Cornerstone Festival in the early 90’s but disappeared for a while before making a return to the festival in 2000. This entire show is available on CD to purchase from the band on their website.. They had even better shows at Cornerstone in more recent years, but sadly, there is very little video footage of those shows online.
This song, “As I Am”, starts out a little rough, but by the end the band had the entire crowd singing along in worship. It was a pretty moving event and it hooked me back into The Violet Burning. I’ve been a big fan ever since.
I was at this show, too. I don’t think I really new the Violet Burning well before this. I saw them way back in the day (like 1993), then didn’t really hear from then again until this show. I really dug this show – it had a good, mellow vibe to it (even in the middle of the afternoon). I started buying all their stuff after this, and I so enjoyed the mellow vibe that I was kind of disappointed when they played a more rock/pop oriented show the next time they appeared at the fest. (I got over that quickly, though, and their rock shows through the mid-00s are some of my all-time favorite shows.)
I was the same way! I thought their show in 2001 was a big disappointment until later I realized it kicked butt. (There is video out there of the 2001 show, but it’s not on YouTube or I can’t find it, but I’ve seen it before.) I wish there was some video from some of the later shows they did like 2002 or 2006. Those shows were epic.
