We stole a wedding, melted and prayed….

This weekend a good friend of mine from college got married. I’ve been friends with her for a long time now and I’m really happy for her. The couple met while serving as missionaries in Russia, so the reception had a very Russian theme, including Russian food and the stackable Russian dolls. I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the dolls.

As in normally the case, whenever I’m at a wedding, I tend to get all introspective and nostalgic, mostly because I have some time to sit and be silent for a while. I start to think about my own wedding and all the events surrounding it. I’ll glance around the room and see all the different people there and think about how their relationships with the bridge and groom have changed over the years, and how their relationships with each other in the room have changed, and even how their relationships with me have changed. It never stays the same, does it? It’s funny how we spend our 20’s drawing up battle lines and alliances, but sometime in our 30’s, we come to realize none of it matters.

Oh well, the ending kicker of all this is now I have one more group of friends to visit in Nashville whenever I am there. And you know how much I love Nashville. Congratulations and best wishes, James and Anita!
