Here's the set. I think two songs were omitted: Love and Revelation, and Against the Grain. There was low energy at Saturday night's show. Both Carolina Story and OTR asked us to check our pulses more than a couple times each. Karin tried to commiserate with us from the stage and said "everything just feels kinda different now, doesn't it?" Yes, it does.
The venue, Old City Performing Arts Center, is relatively young as establishments go. Very low key (but tasteful) stage and lighting. They served canned and bottled drinks out of an upright refrigerator. I noticed after the show OCPAC employees were also manning the merch table, and L&K skipped the after show meet and greet. I assume these were covid related choices and did my best to be supportive and grateful. I helped show the guy behind the table which albums were which. He was incredibly humble and receptive.
There was no shortage of the normal graciousness from the band. Linford and Karin are top shelf, and really succeeded in making us feel welcomed. Eric Heywood's pedal steel added quite a bit of depth to the songs, and Linford came out from behind the keys for about half the show to accompany Karin on guitar and vocals.
Karin debuted her new song Heron Blue, and apparently has now left her almost trademarked Lowden guitar at home in favor of a beautiful dark wood tenor body and a larger Gibson. I loved seeing her hands melodically float up and down the neck of the petite tenor.
As
Mark Moring has already reported What a Wonderful World was the best kept secret of the show. It felt like an old friend stopping by on a cold winter night with warm drinks and a warm heart. Not even a fireplace and wool blankets could have felt any warmer than this Louis Armstrong classic. Yes, it is a wonderful world and we need these reminders. Thank you, Linford and Karin.
