Cornerstone Vids #10, The Crucified – 1995

This isn’t really my favorite type of music (it wasn’t in 1995, either), but this was a pretty important band and a pretty important show at Cornerstone Festival in 1995. This is the final performance of the punk/thrash band called The Crucified. Look at all the stage diving! It’s crazy. The festival has gotten just a little (and I mean just a little) more orderly since then. I don’t know that The Crucified was an exceedingly popular band, but they were a very influential band. A lot of bands 5 to 10 years later would cite The Crucified as one of their influences. Lead Singer Mark Solomon was known for his bold speaking onstage during the pounding music and his blunt discussion about the gospel and Christianity.

Solomon and some of the band members started a second band shortly after the demise of The Crucified called Stavesacre (which I actually like quite a bit more) that we’ll cover later.

  1. I went to the Crucified’s reunion show at the fest last year. As thrashy stuff goes, they’re actually pretty listenable. I bought their box set (released last year) and listened to it (the first time I’d really heard their stuff). Some of the music is pretty decent, and the DVD was interesting. (I still like Stavesacre better, but Salomon’s always interesting to watch and listen to.)
