Erin and Gracie had a fun Halloween this year! We actually got to dress them up (last year they were more interested in sleeping than wearing costumes), and we had some fun running around the front yard while waiting for trick or treaters.

This past Thursday, we ventured up to Dawson County for our annual visit to Burt’s Pumpkin Farm. Last year when we went, the girls weren’t quite two months old, and were more interested in sleeping than looking at the pumpkins. This year, they are walking, babbling, and running, so we thought they’d have a little more fun this time.

Erin seemed to think the pumpkins were alright by her:

Grace, however, was a little more tentative:

They soon decided it was time to explore:

In all, I think they had a good time. Mommy and Daddy did, at least.

It’s no secret that mom and dad are big Georgia Tech football fans, so it was only a matter of time before the girls made it to their first game. We all ventured out to the Tech-Duke game this past weekend for some tailgating and football. The girls were the life of the party. Everyone loved seeing them and playing with them at the tailgate.

On to the game! The girls slept for the first quarter, but didn’t stay asleep for long. Mom and Erin had fun at the game.

Our friends Rob and Elizabeth held Gracie for a little while. We enjoy sitting around friends in our section of the stadium because we can pass the girls around a little bit!

At best, we figured the girls would make it three quarters and sure enough, by the middle of the third quarter, Gracie had seen enough. At least by then Tech had the game in hand, leading Duke 17-0. We made our way out of the stadium and on to the grandparents for the rest of the day. It was a lot of work to take them to the game, but we had a lot of fun. Maybe next game they’ll be old enough to walk themselves around the stadium.

So much changes in just a year. Just 10 months ago, Erin could barely keep propped up in the Bumbo seat we have for her. Now, she is known to walk over to the seat if we leave it out and sit herself in it, even though she’s too big for it. It never fails to make us laugh.

Gracie is so close to walking, too. She is holding on to things and walking from object to object, but it won’t be long before she is toddling around the room, too. She loves one our rocking horses. She’s still a little too small for the one granddad made for her, but the one dad had as a child is her favorite right now.

For our second year, we’ve created a new set of pictures on Flickr. We’ll be sure to add more as the year goes along.

It’s hard to believe that a year ago we became new parents, but one year later here we are! We now have two one year-olds. We were very fortunate to have both sets of grandparents and several of our friends join us for the birthday. We set up a tarp and let everyone’s kids run around the playground and grilled up some burgers and hot dogs. Everyone had a great time in the September heat.

The girls had chocolate cake for the very first time. It would appear that they are fans of chocolate. And cake.

On fortunate days of serendipity, the girls will both take their naps at the same time in the afternoon, allowing us a little time to get some housework done. But that doesn’t always happen. Sometimes one falls asleep and the other wants to play

Oh well, that’s ok. The other one usually gets her revenge later…

Way back in early 2007, right after we found out we were having a baby (and when we were still blissfully unaware that it was really TWO babies), Jeff and I took a trip to Disney World. While we were there, we indulged ourselves and bought “the baby” a set of Mickey ears. They’d sat on a shelf in the nursery for the past year and a half, and I’d pretty much forgotten about them until I was cleaning the girls’ room this past weekend and ran across them. So, needless to say, I couldn’t resist the urge to put them on the girls and make Jeff take pictures of them:

We’re fast approaching the end of year one with the girls… time has flown! We’re having their first birthday party at the end of August.

This past week, we took the girls on their very first trip to the beach! They had lots of fun playing in the ocean and visiting with Granny and PaPa. It almost seems like the trip was too short, but we are glad to be back home and in our usual routine again. Here are some pics of the fun we had!

The girls were baptized on May 25, 2008 at Due West UMC, where we both pledged to raise the girls in the church and to do all we can to show them the way of Christ. They are now officially members of the church! (Next step: confirmation, in a few years.)
