Checkout Line Encounters.

Posted in Rants at 3:21 pm by Adriene

Dear Mr. Person Standing Behind Me in the Checkout Line at Publix,

Please kindly inform your 10-year-old daughter that it is RUDE to pick up every item the person in front of you has placed on the belt for purchase. I don’t care if she’s naturally inquisitive, I don’t want her grubby little hands all over my produce.

Thank you.

I don’t see anything wrong with turning around and telling the child that “that’s not acceptable.” If the parent has a problem with you saying that, then they should have done it.

ITA. I think it is wholly appropriate to ask the parent to instruct their child not to touch your things!

I’ve asked other people’s kids to obey the rules in fast food playgrounds. Of course, most of the time their parents aren’t present to say anything to me about it. (I would have been mortified if my child picked up someone else’s groceries.)
