Tuckerville

So sue me, I’m addicted to the show Tuckerville on TLC. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it shows the day to day activities of country singer Tanya Tucker and her kids Presley, Grayson, and Layla. Sounds pretty mundane, but I strangely find myself watching it week after week (heck, I even put it on a TiVo season pass, much to Jeff’s chagrin).

For example, last Saturday’s episode centered around Tanya’s son Grayson trying to bail the family babysitter/handyman Curt out of jail, where he wound up after being caught failing to pay a parking ticket or twenty. I don’t know why, but watching him try to scrounge $300 up to bail the guy out, then hopping a bus (he’s 14 and can’t drive) to go down to the courthouse in downtown Nashville to post the bail, then getting sent away (since apparently a 14 year old can’t post bail) just struck me as funny. And as something I could see some of my cousins trying to do.

Tanya herself is a piece of work - she’s in her 40’s, but due to a life of hard drinking, drug use, etc, she looks about my own mother’s age. She gets eyeliner and lipstick permanently tattooed on her face once a year, and is addicted to Botox. I can’t put my finger on which one, but she oddly reminds me of one of my mother’s sisters.

I guess the attraction is that this shows what would happen if some of my white-trash relatives suddenly got a whole lot of money. So yeah, that’s my latest TV-watching sin. Please forgive me.
